Summer Movie Nights: Toy Story

When? July 18th

The Bel Air Downtown Alliance invites community members to enjoy a family-friendly movie at Shamrock Park this Friday! On every third Friday through August from 7:15 PM to 9:30 PM, enjoy free admission to a movie in the park. There will be pre-show entertainment at the Band Shell, with the movie starting at approximately 8:00 PM in the same location. There will be food available for purchase onsite, as well as several area restaurants if you’re looking to enjoy an evening in town. Catch the final movie of the season on August 15th, which is slated to be Inside Out 2!

Insectival

Where? 13470 Dowell Road, Solomons
When? July 19th

This Saturday, get ready for a full afternoon of indoor and outdoor activities at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center! Insectival is all about buggy fun for the whole family. There will be activities for all ages, such as a costume contest, crafts and games, and even a “danger zone” where attendees can learn all about parasitic bugs as they view them under a microscope! Insectival will also feature the Misty Meadow Sprinkler Zone, so bring your water shoes and a towel. There will be marketplace vendors onsite, as well as food trucks including Judy’s Food Express, Johnson Family Funnel Cake & Icy Bites, The Sipping Station, and more! Grab advance tickets here for $8 or for $13 at the gate, depending on availability. The festival will run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

African American Cultural Expo & Children’s Book Fair

Where? 3033 Waldorf Market Place, Waldorf
When? July 19th

The African American Cultural Expo is hosted by the National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. Bring the whole family out to this exciting expo and children’s book fair, which will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday. The expo will feature a range of activities, including music, arts and crafts, storytelling, cultural arts vendors, and even appearances from children’s book authors. The expo has moved to the Capital Clubhouse Arena in Waldorf this year, which is an impressive 90,000 square foot facility!

Summer Soca Wine & Music Festival

Where? 13601 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy
When? July 19th & 20th

The 2025 Summer Soca Wine & Music Festival will be hosted by Linganore Winecellars in Mount Airy this Saturday and Sunday! Early access gates will open at 6:00 AM and general admission gates will follow at 9:00 AM, with the event kicking off at 10:00 AM both mornings. Both festival days will be headlined by I&I Riddim from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by Jah Works on Saturday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Image Band on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. DJ Sprang International will be on-site both days as the daily DJ and emcee to keep the crowd lively! General admission tickets include a souvenir wine glass, as well as samples of 20+ wines, from dry, sweet, and fruity options! There will also be food and shopping from 40+ local vendors and artisans, as well as a tasting room with full bottles for sale.

Voices of Fairwood Concert Series

The Voices of Fairwood Concert Series is a free event, with no registration or tickets required. All ages are invited to experience this outdoor performance series at Fairwood Park, hosted by the Arts & Cultural Heritage Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County. The Voices of Fairwood Concert Series dates back to 2013 and has been a beloved summer tradition for over a decade. This year’s performances will range from R&B, soul, jazz, funk, and much more. Each concert will celebrate the cultural impact that the African American community has had on music and event organizers are excited to be welcoming special guest Kurlou Reggae/Image Band to this year’s lineup!

Frederick Shakespeare Festival: As You Like It

When? Through July 26th

As You Like It is the second production in the collaboration between Unstrung Harpist and the Frederick Shakespeare Festival! This beloved romantic comedy will be performed at Hood College’s Hodson Outdoor Theater through next Saturday, so catch it while you can. This is a bring-your-own chairs and blankets event, with the exception of the indoor matinee on Sunday at 2:30 PM. Frederick Shakes pass holders will have chairs available on-site. Grab your tickets here! There are various pay-what-you-can options, allowing you to pay as little as $3 per ticket, as well as a free option. The outdoor shows will begin promptly at 7:30 PM, so arrive early to get settled before the performance begins.

The capital city is a sports lover’s dream this weekend, with the opening of the Mubadala City DC Open Tennis Tournament at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center and a double header featuring both USA Rugby teams as they face off against international rivals.

Catch the action this Saturday at Audi Field with the USA Rugby Double Header. Watch the USA Men’s team face off against England at 5:00 PM while the USA Women’s team competes against Fiji at 2:00 PM. This double-header event is part of a series of world-class international rugby matches across four cities in 2025, as the USA Eagles embark on a landmark year within the global rugby stratosphere. Whether you’ve been a longtime fan of the team or you’re completely new to the sport, this is a great opportunity to cheer on the teams. Tickets are on sale for as little as $42.35. Children ages 2 and under don’t require a ticket if they’re sitting on a parent’s lap. Audi Field is a mobile-only venue, meaning attendees will need to show their tickets on a cellphone or other mobile device.

Dig Dug Dig Music Festival

The Dig Dug Dig Music Festival is DC’s first music festival at Penn Social. The fest will feature 8 DC area bands, including 2DCAT, Bottled Up, Han Gran, No One’s Sphere, Clear Channel, and many more. These performers are considered “under the radar,” so this is your chance to catch them before they make it big! Grab your tickets for Saturday here, priced at just $25 for general admission plus a small fee. The fest is slated to run from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM, so arrive early and stay late! Additional activities throughout the fest include a record fair, vendors, and a curated art/photo show. Mubadala Citi DC Open Tennis Tournament

DC’s signature professional tennis tournament is returning this summer, with world-class talent and exciting on-court action that you won’t want to miss. This is one of the district’s longest-standing sports traditions. The Mubadala City DC Open will take place at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center starting this Saturday and running through next Sunday. Fans will be vying for the opportunity to catch top-tier talent as the male playing field compete for 500 ranking points (the most at stake out of any tournament in the US)! The women’s tournament is also high stakes, so cheer on 2018 and 2020 US Open champion Naomi Osaka and 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu. Venus Williams has also accepted a wild card for the tournament, so catch the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion as she takes the court.

The Vanguard Jazz Jam is a free live music event and all ages are welcome! Hosted at the Vanguard Arts Center, this monthly jam will feature all of the coolest cats in town. Whether you’re eager to participate or you just want to watch and listen, everyone is invited to jam out to the backline drums, bass amp, and weighted key electric piano that are provided by the house! Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own snacks so you can keep your energy high throughout this three-hour jam session! The Vanguard Jazz Jam is hosted on the third Friday of the month, so your next opportunity to check it out would be on August 15th!

12th Annual Old Town Pub Crawl

Where? 1A Prince Street, Alexandria
When? July 19th

This Saturday, grab some friends and take advantage of the 12th Annual Old Town Pub Crawl from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Port City Brewing Company invites locals and visitors alike to experience seven stops while you get your pub crawl pass stamped at each one! There is no purchase required to get your stamp. Once you have your pass completed, you can take it to the info station at the Tall Ship Providence in Waterfront Park beginning at 5:00 PM. You’ll receive a limited edition pub crawl glass to commemorate your experience. Participating locations at this year’s pub crawl include Chadwicks, Union Street Public House, Blackwall Hitch, The Fish Market, and more!

Archaeology Family Day

Where? 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon
When? July 19th

This Saturday, George Washington’s Mount Vernon will be hosting a family day that’s dedicated to all things archaeology from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Families will take a deep dive into how archaeology has shaped what we know about the Washingtons, as well as the enslaved people who lived at Mount Vernon. Swing by the Family Hub to participate in hands-on activities, such as a miniature dig, clay replicas, and even take-home crafts! Throughout the day, there will be live music from the resident fifer and iron forging demonstrations. Additional activities and educational demos will be hosted at George Mason’s Gunston Hall, Patrick Henry’s Red Hill, and a Children’s Book Talk on “First Ladies Make History” at 12:30 PM in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith Auditorium. Ticket prices are set at $28 for ages 12+, $15 for youth ages 6 to 11, and free for children ages 0 to 5. Mount Vernon members can visit for free.
