This weekend in Maryland is all about St. Patrick’s Day fun, Pi Day, and spring season expos such as the annual Frederick Home & Garden event! Whether you want to dive into the world of gems, minerals, and fossils or run (or walk) a 5K before indulging in green beer and Irish staples, there’s something for everyone this weekend!

Pi Day Extravaganza

Get ready to celebrate all things round this Pi Day on 3/14! From 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, the Connie Morella Library will be hosting a variety of self-paced activities to test your knowledge and teach visitors about the history and culture of pie making (and eating)! There’s deeper importance to circles and pi in everyday life. Whether you’re interested in calculating a measurement or satisfying your sweet tooth, Pi Day is for everyone. Activities will be appropriate for ages 3 to 10. Keep in mind, no actual food will be served at the library but there are plenty of options in the surrounding area to get a slice of your favorite pie!

5th Annual St. Paddy’s Party

Where? 4109 7th Street, North Beach
When? March 15th

The Wheel House Beer Garden is hosting their 5th Annual St. Paddy’s Party, which is their biggest event of the year! Enjoy live music all day, as well as a beer truck, whiskey, food, and plenty of fun! Music will be performed by The Basement Snakes from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Richard Hayward from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and Southland from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Attendees can also hear the sound of live bagpipes throughout the day and dive into delicious festive dishes such as Irish-inspired bangers and mash. Arrive early for breakfast shots and Irish coffee from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM!

50th Annual Frederick Home & Garden Expo

For five decades, the Frederick Home & Garden Expo has been a favorite of many area homeowners and homebuyers. Hosted at the Frederick County Fairgrounds, this iconic Frederick tradition invites area locals to explore, shop, and meet hundreds of exhibitors from across a broad range of home professions. You can even bring the kids along, as the expo will be complete with a weekend of family-friendly entertainment such as a dance party, Pirate Magic, and even an expo-wide scavenger hunt! All weekend long, there will be opportunities to attend DIY information sessions covering topics such as spring cleaning, gardening, and more. No prior registration is necessary so find the one that speaks to you and see how you can get a jump start on the spring season or a summer renovation project!

The 59th Annual GLMSMC Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show

Where? Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg
When? March 15th & 16th

Head to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for this year’s annual Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show! The show is scheduled for Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is priced at $7. Children aged 11 and under, as well as scouts in uniform and 4H youth with identification, can get in free. The show is set to feature a diverse array of world-wide treasures across over 40 exhibits, as well as door prizes, demonstrations, raffles, carvings, and even free specimens for the kids! There will be plenty of parking available, as well as food for sale onsite. Attendees can use this $1 coupon for a discount on their ticket.

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Bash

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day all weekend long at the Rams Head Tavern bash in Annapolis. With excellent food and drink specials, live music, and fun for everyone — this is a weekend event you won’t want to skip. The party begins at noon on Saturday with $1 Guinness until 1:00 PM. Throughout the day, Nate Finn, Loose Ties, and Here’s to the Night will take the stage to perform music. Through Monday night, the good times just keep rolling with drink specials like Irish Lemonade, Paddy’s Punch, Jameson shots, green beer, and much more.

Shamrock 5K Walk/Run

Where? 7536 Shirley Boulevard, Port Tobacco
When? March 16th

Are you ready to ring in St. Patrick’s Day with a 5K? Well, then the Shamrock walk/run is perfect for you! This 9th annual event is fueled by Coal Road CrossFit and it’s a great way to kick start your day as you coast through the Port Tobacco route and attempt to snag an award that’s awaiting the top finishers in each age category. There will be a hearty post-race buffet at the Port Tobacco Marina and Restaurant. Green attire isn’t strictly required but it’s highly encouraged. After all, that’s what makes St. Patrick’s Day festivities so much fun. The participant with the best costume will win an award! Kiddos can race in the “Lil Leprechaun” dash at 8:00 AM.

Capital Comedy Festival

Nowruz Family Festival

The Nowruz Family Festival will be held at the National Museum of Asian Art this Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Honor the new year at this annual family-friendly celebration. Come dressed in your Nowruz best and kick off the spring season with free attractions for all ages, like storytelling, hands-on activities, and more. Families can indulge in Persian sweets and there will be a variety of food options available for purchase. Register in advance and keep in mind that some activities have a limited capacity, so entry is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Musical performances by Kimia Hesabi and Erin Murphy Snedecor will be held at 12:45 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:45 PM. Craft options will include postcards, coloring, and a regional clothing activity by Nina Mortazavi!

Holi Festival in Dupont Circle

This Sunday, experience India’s most colorful holiday in DC’s Dupont Circle. The Holi Festival is a traditional Hindu holiday that celebrates the end of winter and ushers in the spring season, with a special emphasis on celebrating color and love. This weekend’s festival will be held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with festivities beginning in Dupont Circle Park with DJ Pandu and Indian cultural dancing on stage by Studio Dhoom and Kathak Dancer Artist. The fun will then make its way to The Ven Hotel at 2:00 PM with dancing and of course, colorful powder throwing!

The event will be overflowing with plenty of food and fun for all, as well as a little bit of well-spirited competition. Combine the best of the pie worlds this weekend with Marco’s Pizza and a delicious pie-baking competition. The winner will receive a $150 cash prize! If you hold the title in your friend group as the pie-baking pro, throw your recipe in the ring or simply come out and indulge in sweet and savory pies and cheer on the competitors. St. Paddy’s Day Festival

Shipgarten is hosting a St. Paddy’s Day Festival this Saturday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Come on out and enjoy free admission, live music, and your favorite Irish dishes and drinks on the menu! Other fun activities at the festival include corn hole, giant Jenga, and cup pong games. Shipgarten will also have 40+ beer and cider samples from local breweries, as well as Paddy’s photo booth with festive accessories to commemorate your experience. The venue is dog-friendly, complete with a menu for the pups, a dog park, and Fido-loving pals. There will additionally be a green eggs and kegs promo running all day and a little friendly competition amongst attendees with the Leprechaun Toss. The winner with the most points gets a gift card!

Rally in the Alley

Where? 1101 North Highland Street, Arlington
When? March 15th

Pregame your St. Patrick’s Day festivities with an iconic street festival at the newly reopened Mister Days. The event will take place on 11th Street (adjacent to the restaurant), as well as throughout the venue itself. The street closure will include outdoor DJ sets, bars, food stations, and even giveaways! There will be a $10 entry fee, of which a portion will go towards supporting The Reach Out Foundation. The festival opens at noon but early risers can come early for the tailgate brunch at 10:00 AM with mimosas, eggs, Bloody Marys, and classic American staples! This is a 21 and up event only.
